Lightning strikes house with 3 workers on roof, hitting one and sending him into cardiac arrest

Update May 28, 5:25 p.m.: Three workers who were on the roof of a home in Middleburg were taken to the Orange Park Medical Center after the house was struck by lightning.

One of the workers was hit by lightning and went into cardiac arrest. When paramedics arrived, they performed CPR and were able to get his pulse back before he was taken to the hospital. CCFR said the man was trying to breathe on his own after his pulse was restarted.

The two other workers were also taken to OPMC for dizziness and minor injuries that came from falling off the roof.

CCFR also confirmed Thursday that a fire in the second story of a house in Virginia Village, south of Green Cove Springs, was started by a lightning strike.

Original story: According to the Clay County Board of Commissioners, three people in Middleburg were taken to the Orange Park Medical Center after they were injured in a possible lightning strike.

The victims’ ages and conditions are currently unknown, but they were standing behind an apartment building when the possible lighting strike occured.

Additionally, a two-story house south of Green Cove Springs was on fire as of 3:45 p.m.

The homeowner believed the fire was started by a lightning strike and does not know if anyone was hurt.
