Clay County woman’s disappearance still a mystery, as forgery case builds against person of interest

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — New court documents were released Thursday in connection with Corey Binderim, the only person of interest in the disappearance of Susan Mauldin.

Mauldin disappeared in October from her Clay County home. Police said Binderim was hired to work on her home bathroom. Family and friends said she fired Binderim and wanted her money back. Action News Jax found Binderim is not licensed to work as a contractor in Florida. Now, a new document revealed he is accused of forging another one of his customers’ names on a check.

The victim told police that the check was stolen from his bag and there is video of Binderim cashing the check at a local bank.

The document said Binderim was working on a bathroom in a Ponte Vedra home, where the homeowner said he stole and a forged a signature on a $5,000 check.

On Nov. 8 police served a search warrant on Binderim’s home. Four days later, the arrest affidavit said Binderim was “working on the Ponte Vedra victim’s home alone and left without completing the work.”

That was the same day police said he was last seen until he was arrested by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office on Dec. 3.

On Nov. 12, police said they found bank “footage that revealed the defendant signing, depositing, and receiving the funds from the victim’s check.”

Just last week, the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office put out a call for anyone who may have information about criminal activity linked to Binderim.

A spokesperson said: “We have been contacted by additional persons regarding him. However I can’t share any additional information at this time.”

Binderim is due back in court Dec. 30.
