CLAY COUNTY, Fla. — A Clay High School student was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of disrupting a school function after arriving at school wearing camouflage clothing and tactical gear, prompting concerns that led the school to enter secure status, says the Clay County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO).

According to CCSO, the student was wearing commando-style gear, which consisted of a tactical vest with pouches, a ballistic helmet, and a radio. CCSO says a school employee saw the student and didn’t recognize them or know if they were a student at the time. The student turned and left school property, which prompted a concern about their behavior.

Clay High School was placed on a SECURE status as an investigation was conducted. The student was arrested on a misdemeanor for disrupting a school function after they were located off-campus and interviewed. The student will also be disciplined in accordance with the Clay County District Schools Student Code of Conduct.

CCSO says they take all threats involving schools extremely seriously and appreciate coordination with Clay County District Schools to ensure the safety of students, faculty, and staff.
