The location beat out the proposal to put JEA in Lot J at TIAA Bank Field, a piece of Shad Khan and Mayor Lenny Curry’s plans to develop the area around the stadium.

On Wednesday Baldwin told Action News Jax: “The folks that bid on that all care about Jacksonville and downtown and want to see a vibrant Jacksonville. So, the board made their decision and it’ll be good for Jacksonville.”

Curry said JEA’s decision is not slowing down the city's progress.

He explained: “We heard Shad say yesterday he’s going to move forward. Our next move will be to bring the ramps down on the Hart Bridge and work with them to develop Lot J.”

According to Baldwin, Lot J would have been a bad fit for the company’s headquarters.

“If what you want to build is an entertainment center, why then stick a business right in the middle?” Baldwin said.
