A teacher in Columbia County is getting attention for all the right reasons.

She organized a prom for handicapped students Monday morning at Richardson Middle School.

Holly Evans said she came up with the idea after realizing many of these students would be unable or would choose not to go to prom.

The Columbia County Sheriff's Office commended her on Facebook, saying "the world needs more teachers like this."

The 23 special needs kids got a limo ride and celebrity treatment as well.

"They got to be rock stars and you could tell they felt very special. That to me was the best time," Evans said.

Evans was one of several teachers and staff from Richardson Middle School who made the event happen.

@Columbiasheriff assisted with a prom today... Ms Holly Evans a teacher at Richardson Middle School organized a prom for the TMH (trainable mentally handicapped) and PMH (profoundly mentally handicapped) students at her school. The world needs more teachers like this!!! She realized that many of these students would be unable or choose not to go to the High School prom, so she brought the prom to them.....
