Crews respond to Westside Jacksonville drive-in theater fire

Firefighters responded to a fire at a drive-in theater Sunday night in the Westside area, according to the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department.

Fire rescue said the fire was located at the Old Playtime Drive-in Theater on Blanding Boulevard near Wesconnett Street.

The blaze at the vacant building has been extinguished, JFRD said. No one was injured.

A NPR report said a church purchased the structure and used it as a meeting place. The report stated that the church had unusual ceremonies where old X-rated movies were burned in a fire pit.

The theater has been in the area since the 1940s, and the church was at the theater from 2008 to 2014.

JFRD are investigating the case of the fire.
