POLK COUNTY, Fla. — Polk County deputies arrested a man accused of installing cameras in the bedroom of a woman renting his home.
Police said the victim was changing channels on her TV and stumbled upon a live video stream showing her bedroom.
They said she pushed a wrong button on her remote and switched the TV to a computer setting which showed live images of her bedroom.
Investigators said the young woman was betrayed, exploited and victimized.
“If there is ever a place in the world you should feel safe, it is in your home. And even more than that it should be your bedroom,” said Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd.
Armando Perez, 32, is facing felony charges.
Investigations said the woman is in her 20s and has a close relationship with Perez and his wife.
“What we found was a very elaborate system, very well planned,” Judd said.
Detectives said Perez is an IT worker and put his skills to use to spy on the woman.
Investigators found two pinhole cameras hidden in the victim’s room; one inside a smoke detector and the other inside a cable access plate.
Investigators documented in reports finding videos where the victim was privately exposing her body.
In total, 15 video files were found on the suspect’s laptop and now investigators are working to find out if they were posted online.
“If he put it out on the Internet, on the web, then any time everyone sees it, she is being victimized again,” Judd said.
