(St. Johns County Sheriff's Office)

The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office is trying to find a car theft suspect who was seen trying to open multiple car door handles that were sitting in traffic.

The scene played out starting at 7 a.m on Wednesday, when deputies tried to stop a stolen car on I-95. The car was lost when it crossed over into Duval County.

Later, the car was reported being seen near U.S. 1 and Race Track Road.

A photo of the suspect was quickly shared on social media by the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office.

The suspect is described as a white or Hispanic male wearing a white tank top and black shorts carrying a bag. The male possibly may have gotten into a vehicle, but this has not been confirmed, deputies said.

"Right now, we have several deputies on scene along with K09s and Air 1," deputies said on Facebook. "We will continue to stay in the area. For your safety, if you are in your home and in this area, please make sure your doors and windows are locked and call 911 if you see this man running nearby."

If you see this man, notify St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office immediately at 911 or 904-824-8304.
