NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. — The owner of a doggy day care near New Smyrna Beach is in custody after employees discovered a hidden camera in a facility bathroom. Donald Hemphill, 59, faces 10 counts of digital voyeurism and 11 counts of video voyeurism of a child, according to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded on Saturday to Dog Dayz Inn, 1765 Edgewater Canal Road, after workers found the camera hidden inside an electrical outlet, the sheriff’s office said. Detectives with the Volusia Sheriff’s Office Child Exploitation Unit subsequently executed a search warrant at the business.
During questioning, Hemphill admitted to installing the hidden camera four to five months ago. Detectives who searched Hemphill’s phone discovered multiple video files capturing unknowing female subjects in stages of undress, the sheriff’s office said.
Investigators noted that one of the subjects depicted in the videos was a child. Hemphill is being held at the Volusia County Branch Jail with no bond, the sheriff’s office said Tuesday morning.
