Design of Concourse B, new security lanes and gates at Jacksonville International Airport

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — We’re getting a closer look at a project underway at Jacksonville International Airport to add a new concourse and additional security checkpoint gates, which would make flying in and out of the airport a lot quicker.

Jacksonville International Airport has major draws for some.

“People are friendly,” Tom McLaughlin said, also pointing out another perk: “The rocking chairs.”

“I had mostly good interactions,” said traveler Nolan Bushnell. “Everyone was chipper to say the least.”

Passengers have returned the favor, by packing a little extra patience while the airport continues to change to prepare for more growth throughout the next 10 to 20 years.

Below are renderings Action News Jax recently obtained which show what the brand new Concourse B will look like. It’s expected to break ground in August of this year.

It will be made up of six new gates and to help with the flow of travelers, there will be two additional TSA security lanes (bringing the total lanes from eight to 10), with new screening technology to process passengers quicker.

A spokesperson for JIA confirmed construction is expected to be complete by 2025.

“Impressive,” McLaughlin said. “Very impressive.”

”I think that’s a great idea,” Bushnell also agreed. “Anything to expedite the flying. I think that’s the most stressful thing, getting to your gate.”

It’s all part of a $300 million dollar project, which flyers say in the long run will keep people coming back.
