Family speaks exclusively to Action News Jax about Kamiyah Mobley Lifetime movie and life after reuniting

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The father of a young woman kidnapped at birth from a Jacksonville hospital in 1998 is speaking exclusively with Action News Jax.

Kamiyah Mobley’s disappearance remained a mystery for nearly two decades -- until she was found alive and living in South Carolina 18 years later.

A woman, later identified as Gloria Williams, pretended to be a nurse and tricked Kamiyah’s mother, Shanara Mobley, who was a teenager at the time, just hours after giving birth.

Williams raised Kamiyah as her own until she was arrested. She was sentenced to 18 years in prison for kidnapping, a sentence the judge said reflects how long Kamiyah’s parents were without their child.

A movie about Mobley called “Stolen by My Mother: The Kamiyah Mobley Story” will be released on the Lifetime network Jan. 18.

Craig Aiken, the biological father of Kamiyah, spoke with Action News Jax anchor Dawn Lopez. Aiken told her his family did not have a big part in the movie.

Aiken said Kamiyah has seen the movie and has issues with portions of the story. She thought the script would be closer to the interviews and details that she shared with producers. It appears that Kamiyah may not have fully understood how much control the writers would have and didn’t like how she was portrayed in some scenes.

Aiken and his family has worked with Tyler Perry and parents of other missing children, Dr. Oz and the National Missing and Exploited Children nonprofit.
