JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Jacksonville University President Tim Cost announced on Twitter that former JU president and Chancellor Emeritus Dr. Frances Bartlett Kinne died Sunday at 102 years old. She was born in in Story City, Iowa on May 23, 1917.
Kinne started as a humanities professor at JU in 1958 and became the first female College of Fine Arts Dean in 1961. She also became the first female president of a Florida university when she was appointed to the position in 1979.
JU established the Keigwin School of Nursing, Davis College of Business, Linda Berry Stein College of Fine Arts and the Aviation program while she was president.

JU will hold a memorial service for Kinne later this year and said more information will be announced as plans are finalized.
