How to apply for City of Jacksonville’s mortgage relief program

Federal funds are still available for anyone looking to apply for Jacksonville’s housing assistance programs.

As of Thursday afternoon, a city representative says 3,321 residents applied for emergency rent or utility assistance and 542 residents applied for mortgage relief.

The Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP) will distribute nearly $29 million of federal funds to assist Duval County residents who have been unable to pay their rent or utilities due to a loss of income related to COVID-19. Residents can apply in-person or online. 

The ERAP application deadline is Friday, April 9, at 6 p.m.

More than $4 million in federal funding will go to Duval County families who aren’t able to pay their mortgage payments because COVID-19 has impacted their income.

Residents can apply for the City of Jacksonville’s Mortgage Relief Program starting at 8 a.m. Wednesday, March 31.

The program will provide up to six months of delinquent mortgage payments or $7,500, whichever is less, and payments will be made directly to the mortgage company.

There are requirements. City leaders said you must own and live at the property that you need help making payments for.

Under federal guidelines, qualifying families must have earnings that fall below 80% of the area median income.

Household size and total income requirements below:

  • One person $42,000
  • Two people $48,000
  • Three people $54,000
  • Four people $60,000
  • Five people $64,800
  • Six people $69,600
  • Seven people $74,400
  • Eight people $79,200

You must also have proof of delinquency and a W-9 form from your lender. NOTE: Obtaining these documents will be the responsibility of the applicant and is mandatory, COJ stated.
