Pedestrian hit, killed on Beach Boulevard

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man was hit and killed while crossing Beach Boulevard near Southside Boulevard on Wednesday afternoon.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said a black Chevy SUV was driving east down Beach when the vehicle changed lanes and collided with a 55-year-old man attempting to run across the road from south to north.

People told police that the man was trying to head to Wawa to get something to eat.

JSO said the man was not walking at a marked crosswalk, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Chevy stopped and cooperated with the police investigation. JSO said drugs or alcohol are not believed to be a factor in the crash.

This isn’t the first time a person has been killed or seriously injured on this stretch of road on Jacksonville’s Southside. In January a man was hit and critically injured after being struck by a driver.

In late May, a pedestrian was hit near on Beach near St. Johns Bluff Road. JFRD said the person hit was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries.
