JSO: Wendy’s employee beaten, robbed in parking lot on Southside Boulevard

JACKSONVILLE. Fla. — An employee at Wendy’s on Southside Boulevard was ambushed as he was leaving work Sunday night by a robbery suspect armed with a tire iron, police said.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said the suspect beat the victim with the tire iron and demanded money.

Good Samaritans stepped in, which scared the suspect off. Police said the suspect ran away from the scene.

Witnesses told police the suspect was wearing all black clothing. He has not been caught.

The fast-food restaurant has several surveillance cameras on the outside of the building. Action News Jax asked Wendy’s for a copy of any video that may have captured the suspect, but we’re waiting on a response.

Friends Rachel DeLuca and Antoinette LeQuier live nearby and said the attack has them worried. “It’s really shocking and really scary,” LeQuier said. “It makes me a little concerned to go out around here now.”

DeLuca described the area as safe.

”This is like a super nice area,” DeLuca said. “I would not expect anything like that to happen.”

Action News Jax ran a JSO crime map search and found five assaults and one robbery within a one-mile radius of Wendy’s in the past four weeks.

Action News Jax requested the police report, but we’re waiting for a copy. As soon as we learn new details, we’ll keep you updated.
