JACKSONVILLE, Fla — The U.S. Navy announced that a Sailor at Naval Station Mayport has tested positive for COVID-19.
The Sailor was assigned to the Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron.
The Navy said: “Military health professionals are in the process of conducting a thorough contact investigation to determine whether any other personnel may have been in close contact and possibly exposed. At this time there is no indication the Sailor had contact with any other members of the squadron however, depending on the results of that investigation, additional precautionary measures may be taken.”
A spokesperson for Naval Station Mayport said: “The department of defense has notified public health authorities of the positive test and has taken prudent precautions to ensure the service member is receiving the appropriate care. This sailor did the right thing and reported immediately to medical personnel. Training was key here and our military personnel have been well trained to recognize the symptoms of COVID 19.”
