What Jacksonville area gyms are open, closed or have changes amid COVID-19 pandemic

JACKSONVILLE AREA, Fla. — Many Jacksonville area gyms and studios have closed because of COVID-19. Some have made changes to still accommodate customers, including creating virtual classes. Take a look at the changes and closures:

OPEN WORKOUT FACILITIES

  • ClassPass said that in response to the global COVID-19 outbreak, ClassPass is offering you more flexibility by adding full credit rollover through June 1, 2020 and the ability to easily hit “pause” on your membership.
  • Baileys Gym will limit operations and will be offering Free workouts with Les Mills to all members in addition to:
    • All Group Fitness & Play Area will be suspended
    • Club hours will be adjusted to 8 AM – 8 PM with the exception of Atlantic Blvd & Deerwood, which will remain normal hours and 24/7. Access is available for those with the amenity.
    • Bailey’s will adhere to Mayor Curry’s 50-person capacity
  • The Gym Jax announced: “Effective immediately. The Gym will be open regular business hours, we will be monitoring the capacity in order to adhere to Mayor Curry’s guidelines. All group fitness classes will be suspended as well as kids club until further notice.”
  • Florida Extreme Fitness Center announces its facility will not be accepting day passes after 5 p.m., but the facility is open.
  • Asana Wellness Jax announces: “Due to the Coronavirus pandemic Asana will be operating on limited hours moving forward:
    • Mon-Thurs 5a-10p
    • Fri 5a-8p Sat & Sun 7a-7p
    • We are doing everything possible to keep the gym clean and open for our members. We appreciate everyone understanding and working with us during this time.”
  • My Gym Jacksonville: As of right now My Gym will remain open. We have a maximum of 10-20 kids in our classes and approximately 15-30 in parties. We clean BEFORE, BETWEEN AND AFTER every class. My Gym Jacksonville will be running a modified schedule March 16-20. Weekend classes and Birthday Parties will run with zero interruption.
  • Jacksonville Yoga, MBody Yoga, Yoga Den (Working to offer virtual classes), are open and offering classes, but the studios are working to keep classes small.
  • Yoga Mix is moving to virtual classes. “We will not be “closed” per se and will continue to practice together. We are so excited to launch Yoga Mix Virtual.”
  • Hot Spot Power Yoga: "Effective today, we will be temporarily suspending in-studio class, at least through the end of March. We are working furiously behind the scenes to create the structure for virtual classes ... "
  • Big Fish Yoga will close through the end of the month and will be teaching though virtual classes.

CLOSED WORKOUT FACILITIES

  • Orange Theory has closed its studios in the Jacksonville area. Link to full list of closures.
    • “Just because we can’t meet in the studio, doesn’t mean we aren’t committed to helping you achieve More Life. Every day we’ll share a 30-minute workout showcasing some of your favorite coaches from around the world. You won’t need special equipment, although we may ask you to scrounge around the house for some objects. But hey, it’s a good excuse to do some light cleaning.”
  • Planet Fitness is closing its corporate stores and asks their franchisees to also close:
    • “Given the increased threat that COVID-19 poses to our global community, and out of an abundance of caution, Planet Fitness will temporarily close the remainder of its corporate stores that are still open, effective Tuesday, March 17th at 10 p.m. through March 31st. The company is strongly encouraging its franchisees to do the same. This was a difficult decision to make but we believe it is the right one. All members will not pay for the time period when their club is closed.”
  • LA Fitness is closing clubs in most states, including Florida. Link to full list of closures.
    • Clubs temporarily closed due to National Emergency from 3/16/2020 5:00 PM to 4/1/2020 5:00 AM
  • Anytime Fitness: “Our franchised owners, who are small business owners and employers, are following these guidelines as quickly as possible in the interest of public health. Clubs’ local club pages are being updated as quickly as possible with temporary closure information. Please check with your local club for information about changes in their hours of operation. Through the Anytime Fitness app, we are offering members access to 1000s of high-quality workouts and coaching that can be done in the comfort of their homes.”
  • Mindful Motion Yoga: “In keeping with our intention to do no harm, the studio will temporarily close, beginning Tuesday, March 17. Existing students will be notified via e-mail regarding access to online classes.”
