Family & friends of slain woman want arrest

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Family and friends of a slain Jacksonville woman want answers and an arrest 11 months after she was killed.

On July 19, 2013, Amber Bass was gunned down at her home.

Thursday, those close to the 22-year-old passed out flyers and spoke to people about the case downtown to generate leads and gather information.

Bass is described as being bubbly, outgoing and driven to succeed.  Police said she was killed outside her home on Springtree Road.

Her older sister, Robin Lezcano, led the group downtown.  She says police tell her detectives are getting closer to cracking the case.

But as each month passes, she said her efforts become more agonizing.

"It's just like the weight of the world is sitting on top of your chest, and they're telling us that they're close but every month that passes it just doesn't get any easier with dealing with her death," Lezcano said.  "It just not fair.  I'm very frustrated."

Action News reached out to JSO for an update on the investigation.  So far, we haven't heard anything back.

"It's just not right that this person is still walking around after 11 months. They should be in jail," Lezcano said. "They ripped a piece of my heart out 11 months ago today. It's just not right that this sweet, sweet person is gone and they'll still free."

Call Crime Stoppers at 866-845-TIPS.  You will remain anonymous and could receive a cash reward if your tip leads to an arrest.
