DUVAL COUNTY, Fla. — A Jacksonville man was killed in a crash Friday morning on the Buckman Bridge.
Somnang Vann, 29, was driving his scooter across the bridge when he was hit from behind by a Toyota Corolla driven by 28-year-old Stefani Mejia, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
Vann's family said he was driving home from an emergency call to fix a customer’s air conditioning when the crash happened around 1 a.m.
"We’re just like brothers, you know, we do everything together, and I just can't believe, I just can't believe," said Vann's uncle, Sokhom Chea.
Chea said the 29-year-old loved his wife and his 4-year-old daughter.

"Every time somebody needed help doing something, fixing something, he's there," Chea said.
FHP said Vann was driving his scooter on the southbound side of the bridge and that he was thrown from the scooter and died.
"People are looking for larger vehicles. They look past the vehicle itself to the traffic behind them, so it's important to take that extra moment look twice, if you will," Dylan Bryan with FHP said.
"I don’t know why he took the scooter," Chea said. "I mean, it's a highway."
The crash closed all the southbound lanes for several hours as FHP investigated the crash.
A helmet was found at the crash scene, but investigators are not sure if Vann was wearing it at the time.
FHP is continuing to investigate the crash, and charges are pending.
