Family of Jacksonville murder victim finds hope in neighborhood canvass

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Jacksonville families are pushing for answers in the unsolved murders of their loved ones.

“As time went on, you think it would get easier," Dorothy Washington said. "But it doesn’t, especially knowing the killer is still out."

Washington’s brother Breon Glenn was murdered on 2nd and Tyler Street in March 2018.

“(He was) very outgoing. He helped anybody no matter how, what, when. If you called him, if you needed him, he was there,” she said.

She and other family members, including Glenn’s 16-year-old son, took to the streets to urge anyone with information about his killer to come forward.

Hand in hand, they prayed before knocking on neighbors' doors.

Glenn’s family isn’t alone in their grief.

According to JSO’s transparency site, 27 people have been murdered in Jacksonville so far this year.

Sixteen of those cases are unsolved.

Records show no arrests have been made in more than 70 murders from 2018.

“We wait until something happens to our family to want to speak up. Don’t wait until it’s too late. If you know something, talk,” Washington said.

On Saturday – a glimmer of hope during the neighborhood canvass.

“We were just talking and that person blurted out so and so did this,” Washington said.

A piece of information she says could lead to justice – and closure for their family.

“It’s all worth it when we knock on these doors and somebody has enough courage to tell what they know,” AJ Jordan with MAD DADS said.
