Father of 3 from Ponte Vedra Beach dies in aftermath of Tropical Storm Imelda flooding in Texas

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. — A Northeast Florida father of three is the fifth person to die in the aftermath of Tropical Storm Imelda after widespread flooding in Southeast Texas and parts of Louisiana.

Nora Dukaj, 18, said her heart is broken. Her father, Mark Dukaj, was taken away from her while he was working to support his family.

"I just miss him, like, I just want him home. Like. that’s all I ask," Nora Dukaj said.

On Thursday, Dukaj's family received a call from Texas State troopers, telling them Dukaj’s body had been found in his Dodge pickup truck after it stalled just three miles from Beaumont.

He is the latest victim found linked to Tropical Storm Imelda as Texas floodwaters began receding after the storm.

His family lives in Ponte Vedra Beach and they said Dukaj was delivering a package from Jacksonville to California when he got caught in the heavy rain and floodwaters.

His family said he posted on Facebook right before he died showing the water rising up around his pickup truck.
