Father speaks out about son shot, killed by Kingsland police officer

Kingsland, GA. — A local community wants answers after a father was shot and killed by a Kingsland police officer.

Investigators said Anthony Green was shot Wednesday during an altercation with an officer.

It happened on North Satilla Street.

Less than 24 hours after Green was shot and killed, family, friends and others throughout the community came together to pray for peace and try to come up with a plan to get answers from police.

“There’s only two people who could tell the story of what happened and one’s dead,” Green’s father, Wayne Anderson, said.

Anderson said he just wants to know what happened in the moments before his son was shot and killed.

“I’m just not good to stand by and let my son’s death go without merit,” Anderson said.

According to investigators, the officer was following Green’s vehicle when Green got out and ran.

A statement from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said an altercation led the officer to fire several shots, killing Green.

“I’ve seen this all over the country and I didn’t think I’d ever be in that number,” Anderson said.

Action News Jax Law and Safety expert Dale Carson said there is a reason why the information is so vague right now.

“Typically, when police-involved shootings occur, there is a window of time before they actually have to give a statement,” Carson said.

Carson said the individual’s statement is examined to determine if it is consistent with evidence in the case.

As the investigation continues and family members grieve the loss of a son and father, Anderson said he wants people to be civil.

“I’m angry, but I want to be wise and use wisdom and I’m praying that the community will be calm,” Anderson said.

Action News Jax contacted the Kingsland Police Department to see if the officer was wearing a body camera at the time of the shooting, but we haven’t heard back.
