FERNANDINA BEACH, Fla. — A woman who’s in town visiting from Akron, Ohio is recovering from serious injuries after she was run over while sun bathing near the Sadler Road access point in Fernandina Beach.
Action News Jax obtained surveillance video from Sliders Seaside Grill which shows the moment a silver Jeep Cherokee hit a sunbather.
You can clearly see the Jeep drive over an embankment, moments later someone is spotted on the ground.

Fernandina Beach Police Chief James Hurley said the driver didn’t stay at the scene despite witnesses appearing to be speak with him.
“The fact that he was told that he had just run over a sun bather and made a conscious decision to leave the area, it does not bode well for him later in court,” said Hurley.
Public records show Gregory Lee Green was arrested for leaving the scene of a crash with injuries.
While investigators believe Green was aware he hit someone that’s not always the case.
“When we have people hit by cars on the beach it’s because the driver didn’t see them,” said Hurley.
Especially in the Sadler Road access point… where there are small drop offs in the sand where people like to lay out.
As a busy Memorial Day weekend quickly approaches, police are urging beach goers to stay away from vehicles and be as visible as possible.

Treva Taylor, who is visiting from New York, said vehicles shouldn’t drive on the beach at all.
“You have blind spots on the street so how would you not have blind spots on the beach when people laying down,” said Taylor.
Less than a month ago Action News Jax spoke with a woman who was run over by a Jeep Wrangler while at Peters Point in Nassau County.
Her attorney tells Action News Jax, he’s pushing the city to issue a moratorium on beach driving.
Some local beach goers say they like driving on the beach, but they want to see it done safely.
“Be very cautious always look and be aware of your surroundings,” said Judy.
Action News Jax reached out to three county commissioners and left them messages on their county issued cell phones but we haven’t heard back yet.
The victim in this latest case hasn’t been identified but Chief Hurley said she was in town visiting by herself.
