FHP: Child killed, man in critical condition after 4-vehicle crash on JTB and Bonneval Road

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Florida Highway Patrol reported that a child has died after a multi-vehicle crash on James Turner Butler Boulevard on Sunday.

According to the crash report, at approximately 7:44 p.m., a sedan from Jacksonville was traveling westbound on JTB approaching Bonneval Road in the outside travel lane. At the same time, a SUV from Orange Park, a SUV from Jacksonville and a second SUV from Orange Park were all stopped at the red light at the intersection with Bonneval Road.

According to witnesses, the sedan failed to slow down, and it collided with the back of the first SUV from Orange Park. The SUV was forced forward into the back to the SUV from Jacksonville, and then, it was redirected into the right turn lane, where it hit the left side of the second SUV from Orange Park. The cars came to a final rest blocking the outside lanes of JTB for several hours.

FHP reported that the 5-year-old boy passenger of the sedan died, and the 26-year-old driver is in critical condition. Every other person involved in the crash only suffered minor injuries. This includes an 8-year-old boy and a 12-year-old boy.

FHP said that everyone was wearing a seatbelt except for the sedan driver.
