JACKSONVILLE, Fla — The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office reported a teenager was shot near the Hollybrook Apartments at 100 King St.
JSO reported that at around 2:47 p.m., officers responded to an incident of gunfire in the 100 block of King Street.
When arriving, JSO reported that a teenager was suffering from two gunshot wounds to the upper legs and suffered non-life-threatening injuries due to an alleged “exchange that went wrong.” The shooting was non-targeted.
The victim is currently undergoing medical assistance at a nearby hospital.
Contact with the victim has not yet been made by officers due to the early stage of the investigation.
The suspect is currently unknown.
Multiple JSO officers are canvasing the area at the entrance to King Street at the location of Hollybrook Apartments.
Action News Jax Logan MacDonald reported that at approximately 3 p.m., JSO had a K9 unit searching the area surrounding the crime scene, along with officers scanning the area with metal detectors.
One Hollybrook resident said she doesn’t even usually allow her kids to play outside all that much because she doesn’t feel it’s safe.
Jarvis Williams, who grew up in the area, said it wasn’t always like this and blames a lack of community resources.
“You gotta do better. If you wanna see better, you gotta do better. It’s going to start with them. If they don’t start, it’s not going to ever stop.”
