Flooring scam targets elderly St. Johns County residents

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office is warning citizens about a flooring scam targeting elderly residents in the northwest part of the county.

In two separate instances, a white man in his 60’s greets victims while a younger man, who he describes as his grandson, brings a roll of carpet into the home.

Even though the residents in both cases declined the offer, deputies believe the “grandson” searches the homes for valuables. The victims later learned jewelry and a handgun were missing from their homes.

The first incident occurred at a home in the 1600 block of State Road 13 North on May 3, with the second happening in the 100 block of Eva Earl Road on May 20.

If you have any information about these cases you’re asked to call Detective B. Kukar at the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office at (904) 824-8304.
