Florida Air National Guard Jacksonville prepares for Gov. Scott's visit

Florida Gov. Rick Scott will visit the 125th Fighter Wing in Jacksonville on Wednesday.

The trip was announced Tuesday, just hours before a bomb scare in Tallahassee. The National Guard Armory was evacuated, because of the threat.

Security is on high alert at the gates of the Florida Air National Guard in Jacksonville.

Air National Guard Officials said they are preparing for Scott’s visit. His visit, follows the executive order, he issued Saturday when five military personnel were shot and killed at a recruiting office in Chattanooga, last week.

Saturday, Scott ordered all six National Guard recruiting offices to shut down and move all operations to an Armory nearby. Two of those offices are here in Jacksonville, “They will not be reopened until we're comfortable that our National

Guard members are safe,” saidScott.

That safety was again in question on Tuesday morning, after an Air National Guard Armory in Tallahassee was evacuated for hours, because of a bomb threat.

"We also began checking the building for a possible bomb. We called in the Big Bend Regional Bomb Squad and FDLE’s bomb dogs came out. The building was checked, and found to be nothing inside that was out of the ordinary,” said

Officer David Northway, with the Tallahassee Police Department.

Although no one was hurt in this most recent attack, Scott said he will make sure all full time Guardsmen are now armed.

“I'm going to do everything under my power to make  sure every member men and women of our national guard is safe,” said Scott.

Officials said they expect Scott to arrive at 10:30 a.m.. Scott also plans on talking to local law enforcement agencies to arrange regular security checks for local armories.
