Florida sees an increase in gas prices according to AAA

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Florida gas prices have been on the rise lately. According to AAA the Florida state average jumped 15 cents per gallon since last week.

“We saw gas prices shoot up double digits,” says Mark Jenkins with AAA

According to AAA, today the national average for regular gas is $3.66 cents a gallon.

Florida’s average is higher than the national average at $3.71 a gallon.

Jenkins, with AAA, says there’s one major reason why this is the case.

“We saw some historic flooding that happened in South Florida a little over a week ago. That left a lot of gas stations in Miami in Fort Lauderdale in Palm Beach without fuel,” says Jenkins.

Jenkins says because of this, fuel from the northern areas of the state including Jacksonville had to help out

“There had a be a mass supply shift kind of where gasoline was sent down from Jacksonville, Orlando, Tampa,” says Jenkins.

We spoke with drivers who tell us when gas prices are this high, they try their best not to travel outside of the city

“It’s just crazy people can’t afford it,” says Karen Marston.

Denise Ferrara agrees.

“Can’t afford the fuel… just can’t afford it right now,” says Ferrara.

Marston, says the fluctuating gas prices have to stop.

“They are low at one moment and it seems like every Wednesday I’ve noticed they’ve jumped up,” says Marston.

Ferrara, says she is nervous with the summer looming that prices might get even higher.

“I use to do Uber and Lift I can’t afford it,” says Ferrara.

Jenkins with AAA is hopeful gas prices will decline, soon.

“We’re likely to see gas prices gradually decline as supplies level out throughout the state. They will likely go where they were before this incident occurred probably in the $3.50 range,” says Jenkins.
