Former Phillies pitcher Brett Myers pursues music career

Jacksonville native Brett Myers made a living in the Major Leagues for 12 years and now his "pitch" is helping him embark on a second career.

Life as a pitcher for the Philadelphia Phillies included a lot of downtime, which he spent scribbling down lyrics.

Now, Myers is not only focusing more time on writing songs but also singing them as well.

After a first album named Backwoods Rebel, Myers is set to release his second album and take the next step in his music career, a full concert at Mavericks in the Jacksonville Landing downtown.

Performing live won't be entirely foreign to the Englewood High School graduate who won 97 games in the bigs and a World Series ring in 2008.

In addition to the pressure of performing in professional sports, Myers got a taste of singing in front of a crowd with a halftime performance at a Jacksonville Sharks game earlier this summer.

With the big concert scheduled for Friday, August 19, Myers hopes to be pitch perfect once again.
