Fort Campbell soldier from Jacksonville dies in off-duty shooting

The 101st Airborne Division announced Tuesday that one of its soldiers, Spc. Brittney Silvers, of Jacksonville, was killed in an off-duty shooting incident in Fort Campbell, Kentucky.

The Army and FBI have launched a joint investigation into Sunday’s shooting. Silvers’ husband was arrested.

"101st Combat Aviation Brigade has lost an incredibly valued member of the Destiny team.  We continue to pray for her family and friends during this difficult time," said Lt. Col. Cayton Johnson, commander, 101st Combat Aviation Brigade (Rear), 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault). "We request that everyone respect the privacy of her family as they grieve this tragic loss."

According to the statement released by the 101st Airborne, Silvers was an automated logistical specialist in the 101st Combat Aviation Brigade.

She was posthumously promoted to Sergeant and received the Army Commendation Medal.

Silvers grew up in Jacksonville and attended Terry Parker High School. She joined the Army after graduating in 2011.

“She was very quiet, she was sweet,” said sister Dominique Mitchell. “She would do anything for anybody.”

Silver's death is under investigation by U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command and the Louisville Division of the FBI.
