HEAL donates iPads to help children with autism to communicate

The HEAL Foundation's mission is to help provide services to those affected by autism in North Florida. That's why they handed out 52 iPad devices to local schools on Thursday.

The devices help children with autism communicate, but there often isn't enough funding in local schools to purchase them.

HEAL founder Leslie Weed saw firsthand how the iPad can change lives after her daughter received one. For the first time in 14 years, she could communicate.

"Her world started opening up," Leslie said. "She said 'thank you for releasing my voice. Mom I love you.'"

Action News Jax is proud to announce a new media partnership with the HEAL Foundation. We look forward to sharing more stories about how the organization is transforming autistic lives in our community.

You can get involved! Join us at the Heal Autism Walk at the Jacksonville Zoo on Sunday, April 28. Learn more here.
