Hidden Hills, Tutor Time learning centers in latest Kid Care report

Every week Action News Jax investigates local child care centers to show you how they measure up to state guidelines. In this week’s Kid Care report, Letisha Bereola talks with a director who wasn’t happy she showed up asking questions about her report.

Hidden Hills Learning Center in Fort Caroline was one of the latest stops for a routine inspector for the Department of Children and Families. It was tagged with two class 2 violations, which, according to the state, could pose a threat to the safety and health of a child.

The first was for a new employee working before her background screening was cleared. The employee is eligible to work now. The other class 2 violation was because the director’s credentials were not up to date. They expired in December, according to DCF.  The director has until June 9 to get that in order.

While Letisha was on the property, the director talked to her on the phone and wasn’t happy Action News Jax came to her center to ask about the violations. She had no comment on the matter.

Hidden Hills Learning Center also received two class 3 violations -- that’s the least serious violation and poses a low potential of harm to children. The inspector noted the outdoor play area needed cleaning and maintenance, and the fall zones on the playgrounds didn’t have protective covering.

The second child care facility in this week's Kid Care report is Tutor Time Learning Center on the Southside. The state inspector gave the center three class 3 violations for peeling paint in the infant room, uncompleted training for an employee and an employment verification that was not on file. That was corrected on the spot.

Letisha went to Tutor Time for a comment but no one came to the door. Action News Jax also called and left a message.

Tutor Time emailed us the following statement:

"We take our responsibility as a caregiver very seriously and are committed to meeting or exceeding state guidelines of care. These concerns have been addressed and resolved. We'll continue to work cooperatively with the Department of Children and Families to ensure we remain in compliance with all regulations."-- Lydia Cisaruk, Director of Communication
