Man shot, killed while walking on sidewalk in Jacksonville neighborhood, police say

5 p.m. Update: While the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office was investigating the deadly shooting Sunday, police said another shooting happened on the opposite end of the same street.

This is the second shooting on Broadway Avenue in the span of four hours.

A man is dead following a shooting Sunday in a Jacksonville neighborhood, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff''s Office.

Police said the shooting happened in the 3500 block of Broadway Avenue near Edegwood Avenue around 12:43 p.m.

When officers arrived to the scene, police said Jacksonville Fire and Rescue were working on the shooting victim who was taken to the hospital and pronounced deceased.

Approximately five to seven rounds were fired, JSO said in a news briefing.

The victim is described as a black man in his mid 30s.The man was walking on the sidewalk during the time of the shooting, police said.

Officers are working to identify the shooting victim.

Authorities are searching for several suspects who fled the scene on foot after ditching a vehicle that has since been recovered.

A rife was located at the scene. Officers are not aware if the gun was used in the shooting at this time.

Police are working to interview witnesses. The homicide unit is currently investigating.
