Three Hurricane Irma-spawned tornadoes were confirmed in St. Johns County, the St. Johns County Sheriffs's Office said Wednesday.
The tornadoes occurred when Irma was moving through St. Johns County Sunday night.
An EF-1 twister was recorded near Vilano Beach, south of the the airport in St. Augustine. Another EF-1 touched down at the Huguenot Cemetery in St. Augustine and an EF-2 was recorded in Crescent Beach.
Action News Jax spoke to several residents in St. Johns County who witnessed a tornado that swept through their neighborhood on Sunday.
“It sounded like a massive train going through," the resident said in a recorded interview. "We really didn’t know what the hell happened.”
There were also two EF-0 tornadoes confirmed in Amelia Island.
