Jacksonville mom says male teacher chest-bumped her daughter

A Jacksonville mother says a teacher roughed up her 12-year-old daughter at school and she wants to know why he isn’t facing any charges.

“They got into a shouting match and he got physical with her, and he asserted himself by chest bumping her backward until she fell,” said Ericka Jackson.

That's the phone call Jackson said she got last week from her daughter's principal at Northwestern Middle School.

According to a police report, Jackson's daughter and her teacher got into a verbal and physical confrontation inside his classroom in front of students. The report said the Florida Department of Children and Families is now involved.

"All I know is she's 12, she's in the sixth grade, and she's not 100 pounds soaking wet. There's no reason in the world that this grown man should have come no where near my child. It happened on Friday, he went back to school on Monday, business as usual," said Jackson.

She said that’s the part she doesn’t understand.

Action News Jax reached out to Duval County Public Schools. A spokesperson sent Action News Jax this statement, “Pursuant to Florida Statute and school board policy, we are unable to comment on active investigations.”

"An administrator, a teacher, anyone who physically mishandles a student, here in Jacksonville, Florida, is quite likely to be charged with assault and battery,” said Action News Jax law and safety expert Dale Carson.

“I want him locked up, I want him in jail, and I definitely want him away from my kids and other people's kids,” said Jackson.

Carson said a lot of times, these cases go without charges because it’s "he said, she said."

We asked the school system for security video. A spokesperson said video will not be made available, as this information is confidential under Florida law.
