Jacksonville mother claims moldy apartment is making daughter sick

Chamicka Reuben said Tuesday, the mold that’s been hiding under her sink at the Links at Windsor Parke has been making her and her daughter sick since they moved in in September.

She said she cleaned a little out with bleach when she arrived, and didn’t think of it again until she realized it could be causing her symptoms.

The mom explained, “When I seen it that’s when I discovered it and started instantly throwing up.”

According to Reuben, her girlfriend forwarded the picture to management on May 2, threatening to withhold rent.

Reuben said they sent a response saying there had been no previous work orders filed.

She described, “They came, they cut the back part of my wall they put a garbage bag and duct tape. My dog must have smelled the smell because he was loose and pulled it down.”

Reuben explained the mold looked worse so they sent new pictures and the management sent a text putting them in a hotel through Monday.

According to Reuben when she returned everything looked the same.

She claimed, “I pay so much for rent and I have my child she’s here most of the time but she’s only 2 years old. She can’t talk to me and tell me I’m hurting.”

Action News Jax’s Beth Rousseau went to the leasing office talk to management.

Rousseau was told any issue is being addressed and was asked to leave.

Staff in the office refused to give Rousseau a phone number for corporate, but agreed to pass her business card along.

Reuben said she just wants out of her lease.
