A Jacksonville spa appears to have reopened after a woman was arrested for prostitution while giving a massage, officials said.
Action News Jax received a photo of Shufen Xu, 50, being walked out of the U-Spa on Philips Highway in handcuffs.
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office's Vice Unit made the arrest, a move that others working in the plaza said they were happy to see.
"It's time to get it done. We need to clean up the whole of the area," said a man who works in the area. He did not want to be identified.
Even though the sign says U-Spa, Action News Jax did some digging and checked the license number on the door. According to the state, the number comes back as Oasis Spa, and its license is clear and has no disciplinary actions.
However, the previous owner of U-Spa got in trouble with the state back in 2014 after a JSO vice detective got a massage from a person who was not licensed.
Two days after this prostitution arrest, Action News Jax reporter Michael Yoshida went to get answers.
Yoshida went to the spa and met a woman who called herself Shufen. Two minutes later, Action News Jax was told that the spa was closed.
Action News Jax returned to the spa a few hours later and it was back open, a frustrating sight for neighboring businesses.
"Just clean it up," the worker who did not want to be identified said. "We can only do so much."
