WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW
  • What were the boilers and stack used for? The two boilers or steam generators converted chemical energy into thermodynamic energy. They accomplished this by burning coal and boiling highly pressurized water, JEA said. Officials said the stack was used to release the products of combustion from the boilers at an elevation high enough to adequately disperse and dilute the gas constituents.
  • There is no public viewing area to watch the implosion. Nearby residents and commuters may hear loud sounds and may see dust in the area during the demolition.
  • Roads will not be closed due to the implosion. JEA encourages those in the area to travel safely.
  • Total Wrecking & Environmental, LLC,  will manage the final implosion. The company also managed the implosion of the SJRPP cooling towers in 2018.
  • This is the final JEA implosion to permanently decommission the plant.
