Jacksonville, Fla. — An abandoned building north of downtown caught fire Sunday morning, according to the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department (JFRD).
According to their official Twitter page, crews responded to the commercial building at 16th and Franklin Street and were able to quickly control the fire.
#UPDATE: JFRD says this fire is suspicious so the State Fire Marshall is investigating. JFRD determined it broke out from multiple locations inside the abandoned building. JFRD Capt. Eric Prosswimmer said fires in abandoned buildings can be especially dangerous for firefighters because “they are in various stages of disarray”.
Prosswimmer told Action News Jax that the fire is considered “suspicious” at this time.
