JSO employee has gun stolen from unlocked vehicle

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, known for participating in the Twitter campaign #9pmroutine encouraging communities to lock their cars at night, released a report saying that one of its corrections officers had a gun stolen from his unlocked car.

The incident happened early in the morning on August 9 when a white man was checking cars on Rosebay Court, according to the report.

The report says around 4:25 a.m. the man then checked the victim's Chevy Tahoe, which was unlocked, and took a gun and holster from the center console.

The man put the weapon and holster in his backpack and then wiped the handle on the driver's side and rode away on his bicycle, according to the report.

JSO canvassed the area, but the man was not found. The gun is not a JSO-issued gun, according to police.
