JSO: Get to the Taxslayer Bowl early to beat the traffic

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Thousands of people will invade Jacksonville for the Taxslayer Bowl and the city is getting ready for the big game.

On Tuesday, bowl and city officials held a news conference to discuss plans.  Officials say parking will be an issue.

Lanes on Gator Bowl Boulevard will be reversed to help out traffic around the stadium. They're also asking attendees to arrive early.

Crews made one last round of preparations inside EverBank Field on Tuesday for the Taxslayer Bowl. While the stadium is empty, on Friday, it will be packed with more than 60,000 fans.

"For the Taxslayer Bowl, it's more manipulation of the streets. Three lanes on Gator Bowl will be going eastbound pre game. All the traffic will be going westbound post game," said Leonard Propper, Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Asst. Chief of Special Events.

Propper said he knows traffic around the stadium and downtown Jacksonville will be heavy. That's why he's asking everyone coming to the game to get there early.

"If they come early, then we can provide accurate information to get them to their parking lots and then they can get to the game," Propper said.

Propper said they're not expecting any problems because security will tight before, during and after the game.

"Most of the resources will be working the game that day as their regular job," Propper said.

He's also recommending everyone to take a picture of where they parked, just in case they need security to help you find their car.
