JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is investigating after an alleged robbery left two people shot.
The incident happened inside the Finley apartments on the city’s Westside. Neighbors inside the apartment complex said they used to feel safe living there, but that changed when one woman witnessed the aftermath of a young man getting shot.
A woman, who didn’t want to be identified, said Sunday afternoon she heard a gunshot in broad daylight while walking her dog. She said when she ran toward her complex to seek shelter she saw a young man lying on the ground, suffering from a gunshot wound.
“As soon as I heard that, I saw, like, a group of people or more like a couple (of) people. They were running. I saw a kid that was pretty much on the floor, and he was, like, holding his knee, and he was pretty much kind of crying (in) agony,”.
JSO said they responded to a call of shots fired around 2 p.m. on Sunday.
Police have not confirmed any ages or identities yet. However, officers said there was another person who showed up at an area hospital also suffering from a gunshot wound around the same time, and claiming it happened at the same location.
Police said after investigating, they believe the incident happened during an attempted robbery. It’s unclear if the two people shot were victims or suspects, but the incident has left neighbors at the Finley apartments on edge.
“The fact that this happened right by my apartment complex, I’m a little scared right now, and I don’t feel safe anymore because that could’ve been me,” said the woman.
Police said both of the people shot are expected to be OK and they believe the shooters got away on foot.
They’re asking anyone with information on this incident to contact Crime Stoppers. You can remain anonymous.
