LAKE CITY, Fla. — The Lake City Fire Department has been awarded a $50,000 grant from the Lowe’s Community Impact program to remodel the living area at Fire Station 1.
The project was selected as one of 100 grant recipients nationwide from a pool of approximately 6,000 applicants.
Fire Station 1 is more than 20 years old and has not received a remodel since its original construction. Seven firefighters live and work out of the facility around the clock, serving 24-hour shifts throughout the year.
Planned renovations at the station include replacing all flooring throughout the living quarters, remodeling and updating the shower facilities, painting the interior walls and replacing all toilets and urinals.
Department officials stated that creating an updated and comfortable living space is intended to improve daily working conditions and crew morale for firefighters stationed at the facility during their 24-hour shifts.
