Local park teams up with Humana for app-based experience

At the historic Fort Caroline National Memorial and the rest of Timucuan Parks, a new digital treasure hunt for all ages is kicking off.

“Coming out here in nature, getting to walk and run -- its going to be excellent,”  said Stacy Sandersamparan, who was out on the trail.

On Wednesday, Jacksonville became the first home for any national park for people with Humana who used an application called Go365 and Bluetooth to find beacons at any of the 22 Timucuan parks and preserves.

“Being able to write a prescription for a ‘park prescription,’ to encourage people to get outdoors -- studies show its phenomenal,” Dr. John Montgomery said.

The program offers real rewards such as e-gift cards, fitness device, and discounts.

The Timucuan Parks Foundation helped make this project happen.
