“It’s always a shock no matter how many times you’ve seen it before,” said Maj. Bert Tanner.
Action News Jax told you in 2017 when local volunteers aided in Texas following Hurricane Harvey.
“We’re trying to be there to provide what we can, particularly the basic needs – food, shelter, water,” Tanner said.
The team will be deployed for 14 days.
According to the Salvation Army, their Disaster Response Unit can serve up to 1,500 meals, daily.
Tanner said more local volunteers will likely leave later in the week.
“People for psychological counseling, as well as emotional and psychological care, as soon as we know the extent of the disaster,” he said.
