JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The man accused of creating so-called house of horrors on the Southside went before a judge on Wednesday.
Russell Tillis is facing a long list of charges, including murdering, dismembering and burying a woman on the property of his Southside home. He was in court for two cases. The other case was for allegedly assaulting an officer.
Action News Jax reported last month that police identified a body found on Tillis' property as a 30-year-old woman.
In court, Tillis’ attorney Kevin Carlisle said he recently received the medical examiner’s reports.
As for the state attorney, they’re gearing up to speak with the lead detective again on this case.
“I have provided some discovery, but I’m meeting with the lead detective today to go over everything,” said state attorney.
At one point, Tillis spoke out in open court, but the judge stopped him and explained the rules.
“And Mr. Carlisle do you know what Mr. Tillis wants to talk to me about,” said Judge.
Tillis responded saying, “About the order.”
Then the judge replied saying, “Oh, Mr. Tillis, I was asking Mr. Carlisle a question not you.”
Minutes later, Tillis’ attorney asked for a protective order against Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit detectives because his client feels the investigators aren’t respecting his rights to remain quiet.
“Because Mr. Tillis maybe suspected in the future or further crimes that the detectives not make contact with him again,” said Tillis' defense attorney.
The judge said he will take it under advisement.
The final pretrials for both cases are expected to happen in February.
