Arrest in deadly McDonald's stabbing (Jacksonville Sheriff's Office)

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office has arrested a man who stabbed a man in his 60s in a McDonalds.

On Thursday, officers responded to the Mandarin McDonald’s on Old St. Augustine Road in reference to a man who had been stabbed. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male in his 60s with several stab wounds. The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department responded and transported the victim to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

Officers obtained a description of the suspect and started to search the area. Police brought out helicopters and the K-9 unit to track him. Russell Hanna, 38, who matched the suspect description, was taken into custody. Employees in the Mandarin Central Shopping Center, near McDonald’s, told Action News Jax the suspect was tackled by police in the area of the shopping center. Hanna was later arrested and is being charged with Second-Degree Murder.

Garret Malcom told ActionNewsJax that he was waiting for his order in the drive-thru when he saw the fight and stabbing in the lobby.

“Next thing you know, they get in a tussle. Dude pulls out his knife and straight stabs him, right in the neck,” said Malcom.

JSO says investigators are hoping to learn more about the nature of the fight between the two men through interviews with the suspect, and witnesses.
