JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Police said a man admitted to shooting and killing his father Sunday night on Jacksonville’s Westside.
The incident took place in the Creekside Oaks Subdivision, in the 1200 block of East McGirts Creek Drive.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said the suspect, 24-year-old Zachary Allen, went to Baptist Health and checked himself in for mental health reasons, then told staff he killed his father, 55-year-old Carlton Allen.
Carlton Allen was shot to death in his home, JSO said.
A neighbor who said he knew the victim for years, said Carlton Allen was a nice man and never imagined something like this would happen to him.
JSO doesn’t have a motive, but Zachary Allen has a history of mental health issues.
