JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Last week, residents of a Miramar neighborhood woke up and discovered their yard signs had been torn apart or stolen.
No one has any clue who did it, but the signs were part of a safe driving campaign.
Miramar resident Holly McMurry found her yard sign torn in two last week.
She said looking up and down the street, she noticed more signs were missing.
“Down the street, they were gone,” McMurry said.
It appears someone, or multiple people, spent the night going up and down London Road pulling up yard signs or destroying them.
These aren’t just any yard signs.
“The signs are up to enhance the signs that were put up by the city to slow people down from speeding down this street,” Miramar resident Vernon Weiss said.
They read “20 is plenty,” and neighbors put them up to encourage drivers to follow the speed limit.

Several Jacksonville neighborhoods are pushing to drop the speed limit from 30 mph to 20 mph.
However, even with a slower speed limit, Miramar neighbors said more needs to be done.
That’s why one is meeting with council member Matt Carlucci on Tuesday.
In the meantime, residents are unsure who pulled the signs.
“We don’t know who’s doing it. We don’t know whether it’s kids late at night or someone just doesn’t want to adhere to law,” Weiss said.

That’s not stopping them from making a change to keep everyone safe.
“They’re going back up for sure,” McMurry said.
Neighbors tossed around the idea of more stop signs or speed bumps.
Either way, the neighborhood will be responsible for paying.
Action News Jax reached out to council member Carlucci about Tuesday’s meeting. He sent us this statement:
“I did meet with Ms. Wright this afternoon. I have known Lisa and her family for a long, long time. The efforts of “20 is Plenty” are similar to my own efforts several years back just concerning my San Marco neighborhood. So, I’ll be following up today’s discussion by scheduling an exploratory meeting in March which will probably include key folks from the Administration, a few City departments, Ms. Wright, etc.
Pedestrian safety is important and so are our neighborhoods.”
