Mom says Neptune Beach teen accused of killing grandma 'is a good kid with no previous history'

The local teen accused of stabbing and shooting his own grandmother to death is waiting to be brought back to Jacksonville.

Logan Mott, 15, is in a juvenile detention facility in Buffalo, New York.

Friday in an Erie County, New York courtroom, Mott waived his right to an extradition hearing.  He could be back in Jacksonville Monday.

Where Mott will be housed when he’s back remains to be seen.

“I would hope that because his father is a corrections officer at the jail, that Duval County will put him in a facility in another county, just to avoid any appearance of impropriety or potential conflicts of interest,” Mott’s attorney Dominic Saraceno said.

Action News Jax took Saraceno’s concerns to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

Citing a Florida statute, a representative said identifying any child or spouse of a corrections officer violates state law.

When we pressed further, she said, “Any housing plans are assessed once they are booked into jail. He is not our inmate at this time.”

Mott’s parents are divorced and have been fighting a custody battle for more than a decade. Friday, for the first time since his arrest, Mott’s mother made a statement.

“Logan is a good kid with no previous history of anything,” Carrie Mott said. “And he’s my son, and I love him.”

Action News Jax law and safety expert Dale Carson said once Logan Mott is back, the case will play out just like any other. He said Logan Mott will have an arraignment, and things will move on from there.

Carson said prosecutors will want Logan Mott arraigned as soon as possible.
